Mike Tussey

Mike begins his fifth basketball with the 2010-2011 NCAA Division II, Northern Kentucky University Norse. He provides play-by-play for NKU’s women’s team, and serves as color analyst for NKU’s men’s team. He has had a storied career in both radio broadcasting and law enforcement, and now as an author.

In his 20 year law enforcement career with the City of Ashland, Kentucky;s police department, he served as the city’s Public Information Officer, and was named the 1989 “Kentucky Law Enforcement Officer of the Year” by the American Society of Industrial Security. Mike also spearheaded the city’s National Night Out campaign, helping the city with the 1988 National Night Out Championship award; also for his efforts, Mike was awarded one of only five national, “All Star” awards given by The National Association of Town Watch. Upon retirement from the City of Ashland, Mike later served as Administrative Commander with the Northern Kentucky University Police, retiring in 2003.

Mike’s long and successful career in broadcasting (1961 to present-day) has historically been associated with the Ashland (KY) – Huntington (WV) – Ironton (OH) Tri-state area, and more recently in the Northern-Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati area with the NKU Norse. Stations with which Mike has been associated included: WIRO, WCMI, WTCR, WLGC, WWHY, WNXT, WCAK, WRVC, WIOK, WQRT, and Tower Cablevision Channel 12. He has served in positions ranging from program director to DJ, to play-by-play announcer of professional baseball, NCAA college basketball, and high school sports. Mike is a 2010 inductee into the West Virginia Broadcasting Hall of Fame, which includes such notables as: Peter Marshall, (host of Hollywood Squares); Ned Martin, (“voice” of the Boston Red Sox for 32 years); Chuck Woolery, (host of Wheel of Fortune, Love Connection, and Scrabble); Joe Johns, (CNN-News Washington correspondent); Jay Randolph, (NBC Sports); Roger O’Niel, (NBC Denver new bureau chief); Soupy Sales, (comedian); Don Knotts, (comedian and actor – Andy Griffith Show); and Bob Denver, (actor – Gilligan’s Island).

Mike Tussey is a native of Ashland, Kentucky, and currently resides in Florence, Kentucky.
